Today is special (and not just because I’ve resumed writing after an 18 month plus pandemic induced hiatus) because I’ve also been asked to take part in The College of William and Mary Alumni Instagram Takeover. The takeover is a way to highlight what alums of the College have done both during their time at W&M and what they are doing in their current life.
Please enjoy, and Go Tribe!

Hello Tribe! My name is Hilary Grant Dixon (@curly_girlie78) and I am a proud member of the Class of 2000!
William and Mary and I go all the way back to the summer of 1993. I participated in the Exploring Medical Careers program sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, under the direction of the incredible Dr. Carroll F.S.Hardy. The College quickly became a place that I could see myself returning to upon high school graduation. What they say is true, “Those who come here belong here.”
As an undergrad, I could usually be found in Tucker’s Writing Resource Center, the second floor of Swem or in one of classrooms in Millington. I majored in Psychology with minor in Kinesiology, so, when I cycled through the five stages of grief after tanking a Physiology exam, I knew exactly what was happening.
Jokes aside, I was a conscientious student who also made time to experience college life. I was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Black Student Organization, ESSENCE Women of Color, and I supported my Bread Ends and House habit by working as a student receptionist at Adair Hall.
My best memories of William and Memory involve my friends, who have since become my family. From my roommates in Nicholson 2nd Upper and Jefferson Basement, to my fellow RAs in Landrum, my classmates have left an indelible mark on my life. I met my husband, Craig, during my freshman year and we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this past June.
These days, Craig and I live in Northern Virginia with our daughters, Morgan (16), Coever (14), and Vivian (9). As a writer and photographer, my days consist of generating creative written and visual content for my blog and social media. In 2014, I published a “Maggie Sinclair, Will You Please Fix Your Hair?!”, a story of self love and appreciation for natural hair.
I may have graduated 20 years ago, but my ties to the College are very strong. I support William and Mary as a member of the Society of 1918, a former board member of the Hulon Willis Association, and a Homecoming supporter as often as time allows.
